I'm often asked if I regret naming my business "Kickass Designs" or if I have any plans to change the name and my answer is always the same. Hell no. I chose the name Kickass Designs because it represents me and what I do. I myself am a bit edgy and so is my work and I wanted a name that represented that. It may offend some and to be honest I would never want to work with those people anyways. Could I get more clients with a more "professional" name? Sure but then I wouldn't be staying true to myself. Over the years the name has served me well and I am frequently contacted because the name drew a client in. I think Jody Williams, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, said it best when she was asked what her key to success was and her answer was simply, “Stay true to yourself.”
Sure, sounds easy enough, but how do you stay true to yourself when you’re surrounded by people who have an opinion about EVERYTHING you do, who constantly offer their opinion, whether you asked for it or not, and who seem to imply they ‘know better’? Add social media to the equation and you can multiply that number by 10.
Maybe it's not as easy as it sounds! Just keep in mind, if you’re going to lead the life YOU really want, you will run into a few people who just won’t (or can’t) understand where you’re coming from. I have always been a firm believer in mirroring the successful and doing what already works. Why waste years on lifes hard lessons when you can learn from someone who already has.
Start listening to those who have the experience, ideas, perspectives, philosophies, and the reputation you’re striving to emulate. Listen to people you would trade places with, and listen to those who have already experienced the success you’re trying to achieve. Earl Nightingale was one of the first business philosophers of our time and he said something that always sticks with me:
“If you really want success, and you don’t have any mentors or guidance, you can get a head start by looking at what everybody else is doing and do the opposite.”
This is how I live my life, and you should too if you want to live an above average lifestyle. It may seem like outlandish advice for those not familiar, but question not. This is a GAME CHANGER. This is a great strategy for those who are serious about improving their life, relationships, business, and overall happiness. When I say I mirror the successful, what I mean is I only mirror those with the results and lifestyle I want. If you want a normal life, with normal income, normal problems, and normal experiences, there is no need to read on as this blog is not for you. Now most people who started reading this wont finish. If you want to be like most people just close this blog and go back to your daily routine. Something tells me if you're still reading you don't want to be like most people.
So what do I mean by "most people"? Well I get into that more HERE but if you take anything from this post it's this: Stay true to yourself and mirror the successful.
